Hehir (Extending Comments)
I am extending comments off of both Megan and Annas post!
Both of your posts were so interesting and really well put together. I was able to connect with you and it was as if I was there in person with you, while I was reading along. Not only that, both of your posts clearly explain where you stand and it was easy to comprehend. So well done! 😊
Megan,
Just like Anna said, Hehir was a lengthy read and so I found it extremely helpful that you put so much detail and included a clear overall view on its content (while including your own thoughts). I have a hard time being able to break down articles like this, especially when I know that they are important, so having your piece as a buffer allowed me to fully understand and connect with the reading.
Anna,
You always know how to say what I am thinking when I cant put it into words. It was refreshing to hear that you too value the importance of integration and that it is essential for the growth of youths. The idea that people with disabilities are incapable of successfully achieving certain skills and abilities is one that does stand out to me. I am someone who has a learning disability but I have never viewed it as something that makes me less worthy or less intelligent than those without. Yes, I have to work harder than the average student and it is something that I have struggled in school with for a long time, but I do not let it define me and I sure do not let it label me. The idea of a integrated learning classroom for all is something I have always been a huge advocate for. Putting aside the fact that people who possess some type or form of a disability, no one person learns the exact way someone else does anyways! So why do we try to put people into boxes and limit their abilities when we could be reaching more students by adjusting and realizing that there is no one way to learn. If we can acknowledge that, I truly believe we will be not only be more successful as teachers but we will reach more students and change education. We never stop learning and everyone deserves a fair chance at it!
